Police Services

The Town of Columbia contracts for Police Services with the Connecticut State Police.  Police Officers assigned to the Troop "K", Colchester barracks conduct normal, routine patrols of Columbia highways and roads. Furthermore, Columbia receives the services of one "Resident Trooper" who is assigned to Columbia on a full-time basis.  The Resident Trooper position is filled through a competitive selection process which includes an officer bid, oral interview and prior evaluations.

The Resident Trooper has the responsibility of handling every police related function in the Town of Columbia, including investigating crimes, teaching D.A.R.E., participating in community policing activities, applying for federal grants, patrolling the Town, enforcing motor vehicle laws, making arrests and giving public presentations on a wide array of public safety issues. The Resident State Trooper assigned to the Town of Columbia is Trooper Kristina Vivino. Trooper Vivino can be reached at 860-465-5400, ext 4047..

The Connecticut State Police, Resident State Trooper program began in 1947 and has become one of the most effective programs in law enforcement for smaller, community policing. In fact, several other state police departments around the country have used the Connecticut State Police, Resident State Trooper program as a model for designing their own programs.
