Columbia, CT., January 17, 2025 – Town of Columbia official update on the altercation last Saturday, January 11th in the Horace Porter School parking lot.

The timing of this press release comes after a warrant has been issued for both parties involved in Saturday’s altercation. Any communications from the Town or its Recreation Department would have been premature until additional and in-depth facts were uncovered by the Connecticut State Police (CSP). Because the altercation occurred outside of the gymnasium and involved a perceived injury, the CSP were immediately notified and took control of the investigation. We stand ready to assist the State Police with any portion of the investigation that is needed.

The Town of Columbia does not condone any conduct, verbal or physical abuse, and we take this incident very seriously. Our highest priority is to ensure the safety of the players, staff, and all attendees at any Columbia event.

The Town of Columbia and the Recreation Department are taking action and reviewing our practices to identify necessary changes, both in the immediate and long-term.
