Public Service Announcement from the First Selectman and the Columbia Resident State Trooper: Lock your car doors!  We’ve had an increase in auto burglaries recently and almost all of them are to unlocked vehicles. Thieves typically go driveway to driveway looking for unlocked cars.  If they find a locked car they move on until they find an unlocked one.  The simple act of locking your car can decrease your chances of becoming a victim.  Don’t leave your keys/key fob inside of your vehicle!  If the thieves find your vehicle unlocked, they will often check to see if keys are in the car or will try the push button start in the case of keyless ignitions.   Lastly - if you see something immediately call 911.
