PERSONAL PROPERTY DECLARATIONS
Personal Property Declaration forms are now authorized by the State of Connecticut and mandated for use statewide. For the 2026 filing, the form is LONGER than in the past and will have fields that do not apply to every business. Please read the Instructions on Page 2 and the Property Code & Description list on Page 7 to identify the property your business is expected to file. The Motor Vehicle form now includes a 3rd page for reporting of a second vehicle. The Assessor must accept ONLY the approved formats for these forms. No other versions may be accepted. Any exemption applications must be attached to the declaration and received on or before the deadline to be approved. The deadline to file is ON or BEFORE 5 PM EST on November 2nd. PLEASE plan to complete and submit well in advance of the deadline as there is likely to be increased confusion regarding the new forms. Questions are best addressed to the Assessor via email.
There is no short form available this year per OPM.
Who should file: All owners of taxable personal property.
Extension: The Assessor may grant a filing extension for good cause. (CGS 14-42 & 12-81K) You need to file for an extension no later than November 1st. (PA 19-200)
Penalty for late filing: Failure to file timely will result in a penalty equal to 25% of the assessment of the personal property. The declaration must be post marked or hand delivered no later than November 1st. (CGS Sec. 1-2a)
