To apply for a marriage license: Both the prospective spouses must be present to sign the marriage license in the town where the wedding will take place.Once the license is issued, it is good for 65 days. The license fee is $50.00 (July 1, 2018), payable by cash or check.
(Effective October 1, 2009, a marriage license may only be obtained in the town where you plan to be married pursuant to PA 09-232, section 73)
Things you should know:
- The application process will take some time to complete; please plan to arrive at least 1/2 hour before closing time;
- Both parties must appear in person to apply, though not necessarily together. In that case all information needs to be furnished by initial applicant;
- Bring your drivers licenses;
- Know which state each of you was born in;
- Know each of your mothers’ full maiden names;
- Know where each of your respective parents were born (state or foreign country);
- Know your social security numbers;
- Know the date and what town the ceremony will be performed in;
- Know the name of the person officiating and their phone number;
- Keep in mind that the marriage license is good for only 65 days from the time of issuance. Plan to apply no earlier than 1-2 weeks prior to your wedding day;
- Bring cash or check in the amount of $50. (Please… no bills greater than $20)

- You should call ahead to make sure we have your license on file.
- You will need to fill out a request for a copy of your license and you will need to present a photo ID.
- There is a $20.00 fee for a certified copy of your marriage license effective 10/1/2009.
